Sue Williams of Smallbridge Studio

Working out of her studio in Anchorage, Sue is inspired by her Alaskan environment and nature. While she has an extensive background in art that includes a BA in fine arts (double major in painting and sculpture) from Central Michigan University, she specializes in metal arts, creating the pieces seen on this site, some in lost wax bronze and others in sterling silver and copper. She periodically returns to painting drawn by the raw colors and landscapes of the Far North with its palette of grays, blues, ochre, raw umber and burnt sienna.

An avid reader and retired Library Director with an MLS from Western Michigan University, Sue has also dedicated a large portion of her life to the advancement of literacy. Seeing little kids turned on to reading and helping adults find literacy were the initial reasons she became a librarian. She spent the majority of her working career bettering underfunded libraries, spreading the joy of reading to poor neighborhoods and seeing to it that people of all ethnic and social backgrounds could enjoy their local library. Most recently she enjoyed volunteering her time teaching English to Alaskan immigrants in the Alaska Literacy Program. To find out more about her life and career, you may read her memoir, which is available for purchase. Her library work is recognized at the Oconee Regional Library, Dublin, Georgia, website.
